Description
Clattercote is one of the UKs top carp filled reservoirs and is a great place to catch your first double figure carp,
stocked with over 50,000 small carp by British Waterways a few years back, the water is now coming into its own. Catches
regularly exceed 100lb during matches and the pleasure angler can always expect plenty of action. The reservoir itself
is lined with willows, laid specifically by most of the pegs, naturally these willows can aid in providing some great
sport when there is'nt any other anglers walking by.... The main quarry consists of small to medium sized carp in the
region of 4 - 12lb. There are also plenty of tench and silvers to provide plenty of bites.
With well over 100 pegs, the vast majority of which are purpose built wooden platforms, you are practically guaranteed a
peg, even over the busiest of weekends, but be warned the car park itself only holds around 30 - 40 cars. So during the
busiest periods you can find yourself having a bit of a walk along the main track to the reservoir. The wooden platform
pegs are not suitable for anything other than the smallest of bivvies or wrapped brollies, so the majority of overnight
anglers tend to fish from the dam wall, where there is ample space for bivvies. If you do intend to fish from the dam wall
you will need a rod pod and a strong long handled landing net as the dam is made entirely of concrete with a small top retaining wall.
The walk to the peg can be very short providing you can get in the car park (you usually can) or you don't mind fishing on the
nearside of the reservoir. As Clattercote is fairly large the walk can be quite long if you decide to fish the farside, to walk
right around the entire lake takes around 20 minutes.
Reasonable day ticket prices considering the quality of the fishing, although prices for fishing a 24 hour session using 2 rods
are comparable to specimen carp waters. Concessions are available for juniors and o.a.p.s at the usual discount rates.
Non-Secure on site parking is available, with space for around 30 - 40 cars. Further parking is available using the main entrance track..
On site facilities are limited to a small porta-loo for the brave, and a much needed bin in the car park. During the week there is always
plenty of space, things do get busier at weekends but if that doesnt bother, you can always find a peg.
