“Has anyone got any info about the lake at wiremill in Grinstead. I know it is open for day tickets and run by W.M.A.C, but would be interested to know what stock there is in the lake.
I managed to find an article on the internet that states 3,500 roach were stocked into the lake back in 2007, but apart from that it all a bit of a mystery.
Please HELP!!!!

“Niceone pond!
I did take another walk around wiremill the other day, and finally spotted a nice carp.
Its the first one I have seen after a few trips, so i do think that the stocking levels are very low indeed, but Im always up for a challenge.”

“Wow, thanks Flairz...
An interesting post with some useful info.
My challenge now includes trying to locate the book you mentioned.
I know that W.M.A.C stands for Wire Mill Angling Club, but i have never been able to find out anything about the club or even if its still going.
We have been baiting up a couple of spots over the last couple of weeks, just because we get the feeling the carp in there dont see much bait, so we figured we would try and get them used to boilies before we start fishing it. ”

“We were hoping to get down there and bait up a bit more this weekend, but it might be next week now.
I have been round the other side, but you end up trekking through a forest if you try and go further up the lake, literally, and some of the pegs look nothing short of dangerous if you go past the first couple.
Someone mentioned that there is also a nature reserve at the far around, any ideas on that?”

Its always sad when you hear of a fish kill, but looking at the place now it seems to have recovered quite well.”

“ To all those looking 4 WIREMILL info, I was a member 4 about 5 yrs back in the 90s, I went out with the owners granddaughter . It used to have a water skiing club operating then and as it was considered harmful to both skiers boat that hitting a surface feeding carp at 30 knots, was not only dangerous for both skier boatcrew, but made a very gory mess of the carp ! It was therefore decided that if any carp were caught (and i never saw one or heard of one being caught in 5 yrs) that they must be released in the out going river !That was a club rule ! You carp guys must be thinking - what a waste. In those days the the only fish stocks were tench , bream , pike the usual head of silverfish (roach, rudd skimmers etc.) As you know tench bream are bottom feeders , so if you werent into tench or bream fishing - this was not the club for you ! The club used have matches most saturday nights with good catches most nights , and as i have already mentioned , i never saw or heard anything about carp. So i hope this answers your questions . (i guess if the waterskiing club is still there , your pretty much wasting your time trying to locate carp for the simple reason - there aint any carp present ! also if your not into catching tench slabs , are you sure this is a club you want to join ? I hope this has helped, feel free to ask any more- i will be happy to try and help ! ”
