The smallest member of the main carp
family, Crucian carp are more
rounded then their closely related
carp cousins and have a slightly
upturned mouth as opposed to other
carp, the colour varies from deep
brown through to golden with silvery
flanks. Their main diet naturally
consists of small snails, fly's,
bloodworm and most other small
aquatic creatures including other
fish. Common Carp like their closely
related counterpart are actually
descended from the common
goldfish.
Crucian carp are well known
throughout the angling fraternity
for their ability to provide
'finicky' bites and as such any
angler quick enough to catch one can
usually be proud of doing so.
Any Crucian carp over 2lb in weight
can be considered a special fish. |
